Join RSTU as an Organizer

We Need Organizers

Organizing is not theoretical work. It's about building relationships, having real conversations, and helping tenants see their own power. We're looking for people who are:

Committed

Willing to show up consistently and follow through on commitments to tenants

Grounded

Connected to Reno and Sparks, understanding local housing conditions

Humble

Learning from tenants' knowledge and experience, not imposing your agenda

Persistent

Organizing is 90% follow-up. Comfortable with repeated phone calls and door knocks

What Organizers Do

  • Canvass buildings: Knock on doors, talk to tenants, identify issues and build relationships
  • Make phone calls: Follow up with tenants after canvassing, keep them organized
  • Support campaigns: Help facilitate building meetings, recruit for committees, lead canvassing teams
  • Research landlords: Dig into property databases and help identify organizing targets
  • Media & outreach: Help communicate victories and build public support
  • Build coalitions: Connect with other organizations, unions, and community groups

Time Commitment

We're flexible. Some people are available 2-3 hours a week. Some dedicate full time. Start where you are.

What matters is showing up consistently for tenants in your organizing area.

How to Join

Ready? Reach out and we'll schedule a time to talk about what organizing looks like and where we could use your help.

No Organizing Experience Necessary

We provide training and support. What matters is commitment to tenants and willingness to learn. Many of our most effective organizers started with zero experience.
